Western Trauma Association Critical Decisions Algorithm — Management of Renal Trauma
1 step
A: Renal Injury Identified on CT
Start
Contrast-enhanced CT of the abdomen/pelvis demonstrates a renal injury. Grade the injury using the AAST Kidney Injury Scale and assess hemodynamic status.
Clinical Note
CT with IV contrast is the gold standard for renal injury evaluation in stable patients. Delayed (excretory) phase images help identify collecting system injuries and urinary extravasation.
